Well since we were operating under the assumption that we would eventually win the war if we just consistently killed more of them than they killed of us, and that was an extremely flawed assumption, I gotta say some of the blame rests on military strategy for sure.
I don't feel like you need to be some type of expert in warfare or military strategy to get this concept....If you send your army halfway across the earth to get involved in someone's domestic situation, they aren't going to lose interest in the war and give up.You'll more than likely be the one who does that. People have much more incentive to keep fighting til the bitter end if they can't walk away from the war and go home because they already are home.
