What's weird to me is the whole "unable to speak English" and not being able to remember his birthday part. I don't understand how someone can forget their native language, even if they haven't used it in a while. I can understand developing an accent or something, but your first language is something ingrained into your brain as a child. He had to have been discovered by local authorities and sent to some sort of brainwashing.

The article doesnt give too much facts since I havent watched the documentary. Did he desert or was he captured?

meh. It's the military saying all of that, not exactly the most trustworthy of institutions.
