I don't know if I would say that is 100% the fault of the electorate. Surely they could do more for themselves but a tremendously effective technical effort is made to foster a gullible world view and maintain social control without the use of much physical violence against the population..
So most people don't even pay attention to the glossy flyer or bother to vote because it is simply not relevant to their sphere of existence, which for most has been compartmentalized and mechanized in the extreme in order to play a part in a vastly complex social arrangement that modern science is only barely beginning to comprehend.
If it's too difficult for the collective institutions of science to fully comprehend and deal with how is the average worker responsible dealing for the situation?
