direct democracy is "subject to caprice and the madness of popular rage" as one of the signers of our declaration of independence put it. it's absolute nonsense and our forefathers would not stand for it, it's why we fashioned the consitution to have senators chosen by state assemblies, and have presidents chosen by electoral college. the most democratic part of the government was just one piece, the house, which in turn was balanced by the "aristocratic" senate, "monarchical" executive, and uh, judicial judicial branches.
