The BC thing was the first thing my wife mentioned when we heard this yesterday, I'm going to like showing her she was wrong.
IMO it's a combination of things. Advertising is huge, there was an article in the last consumer reports and the huge upswing in low-T prescriptions with the corresponding increase in advertising. Industry funded medical education, IMO, another form of marketing contributes. Hell our whole societal conditioning that pills will fix everything.
It's only going to get worse. Between government, the food/big ag lobbyists, and the drug lobbyists they've pretty much got us situated to extract maximum profit from us. Diabetes and the other medical ills associated is going to wipe this country out financially. Right now 8.3% of our population has it, another 79 million are pre-diabetic.
