hehe. I don't hate banks at all. Quite the opposite. The financial industry today is maligned entirely out of proportion with their crimes. And in the next few years the recovery is going to be handicapped by banks sitting on huge sums of cash to cover potential liabilities from lawsuits based on actions that occurred almost a decade ago. Quite silly, IMO.
But anyway, I think that for HSBC to have been found liable the regulators would have to show some level of complicity or negligence in the measures they have adopted to prevent illegal transfers. If they had an effective monitoring system in place but some illegal transfers slipped through I don't think they would have had to pay up.
