They were defeated. They didn't run, for Chrisakes. They took like a quarter million casualties or some crazy number fighting the German advance...between German airpower and armor, they were simply bested. As were a lot of people. Were they all supposed to just line up and be mowed down?
Its a truly ugly and nonsensical business, smearing them for their all time greatest national disaster.
Its just so damned easy to belittle the French, if that's what gets you off. Be more creative about it.
