If you're going to approach this from any sort of numbers game, there are many, many things more deadly than firearms.

I am so proud to see the level of maturity in this thread. This is a contentious topic, but it is so refreshing to see the different viewpoints being presented in such a mature manner.

I don't really see any reason for a lot of guns. I think pistols should be allowed for home defense, and rifles that are clearly limited to use for hunting ( eg only a 5 round clip or something) should be allowed after a painstaking, lengthy investigation. Anything else is just a toy. Ones right to play with their toys is very very low on my give-a-shit-o-meter.

And if somebody else gets a hold of your guns, a la this kid, you should be held liable for any resulting crimes if you were even minimally negligent in monitoring your weapons. If this lady had not provided killing devices to her aspergers, disturbed child this tragic event possibly could have been avoided.
