My point is 4 pounds a year isn't necessarily going to lead to death and overweight people don't necessarily suffer the same problems as obese people.
Should people strive to be healthy? Of course. Is this ban going to cause that? No. Being healthy means having a normal diet and usually involves exercising, and this ban encourages neither. You can't "will" people into eating better - its just not going to happen. They have to be educated on the subject and shown how to properly diet and exercise and even then some people just don't care.
And thats where taxing junk food comes in. It pays the bills down the road. Limiting a size of a glass of soda in a restaurant isn't going to make a shit of a difference in the long run.
