It does make sense, exploited, but as you noted, it would be really tough. You would really need a strong international presence, and even more difficult, you'd need this international presence to carry credibility with both sides.

One thing Israel demands of any two state solution is a demilitarized Palestine. I can understand why they feel that way, but quite honestly, if I'm Palestine I sure as shit am not ok with that unless there's someone with a lot of muscle and who I really trust playing referee. Of course, if America has a big hand in it, I don't think the Palestinians will feel very trusting.

I support Israel and I am neither Jewish nor a religious nut. It seems like you guys believe that Israel enjoys fighting, or wants to ever expand it's domain for no reason. It's a tiny state of genocide survivors that have been attacked at every twist and turn in their nations short history. They are a liberal democracy with a thriving and modern economy. They are an American ally, and we share deep economic and cultural ties.

I am not in favor of unconditional israeli support, but they are our best ally in the region and I a glad we treat them as such. I demand my politicians treat them as such. I'm not going to allow America to try and equivocate settlement building, with a militant rocket campaign targeted at civilians. I'm not going to equivocate a liberal democracy with a terrorist group that denies an allies right to exist. I'm not going to punish Israel trying to protect the safety of it's citizens in the most realistic and effective manner it can.

It's not a coalition of lunatics or some lobbying effort. The American people are overwhelmingly in support of Israel on this situation. That is why the United States supports Israel, as it should.
