Refused to negotiate? Who passed a healthcare bill that not a single Republican voted for, and in fact dozens of Democrats voted against? Who passed that bill, despite the fact that Democrat Max Baucus had crafted a healthcare bill with bi-partisan support?[/quote]
That bill had dozens of republican amendments in it. And indeed not a single republican would vote for it even with those amendments.

Negotiation requires a little give and take. President Obama's idea of compromise is that you give him what he wants now and he'll think about what you want later. No promises. If you don't give him what you want, it must be because you are unpatriotic. Just look at the ACA, passed without a single republican on board. There wasn't any hope of working anything out after shoving that one up our ****.[/quote]
This is fantasy. He bent over backwards to try to bring republicans in on this but there was no way to do it. Having a majority in both chambers at the time he didn't really need their permission, but it was obviously important for him to try to bring them into the fold. How many times does he have to be told to abandon his entire agenda and do what they want to do or else he's not compromising before he's allowed to stop trying?

Many democrats who voted for it lost their seats in 2010 generals, but republican primaries were far more hostile to the ACA. There was no point in buying off votes of guys who were never in a million years gonna vote for it cause their base despised the whole thing.

Irrelevant. Point is there was nothing he could do to get their support, no matter what compromises he made. Complete capitulation would have satisfied them, and that's the "compromise" they wanted, but that's not what compromise is.
