The increased price of oil due to the war in the middle east really gave Iran the economic boost needed to build this plane despite the embargo.

Now for the most part this is my gut talking here, but there seems to be a bit of a hoax'y type thing going on here. Not that this isnt a functional plane that may or may not be able to evade radar. Im not an aerospace engineer or anything, but the design appears a bit clumsy. They did take a lot of the stealthy design principles you can find on other aircraft such as the angles and intake on the top of the fuselage. But from my untrained eye it doesnt look as if there is a lot of lift potential there and the angles pose problems with stability. In the west systems are highly advanced with the fly by wire and other automatons. I cant imagine the systems they have developed are anywhere near those capabilities and the pilot may be flying by the seat of his pants in this bucket looking aircraft. The intake and exhaust seem a bit small and i have to believe their engine tech is way behind the ball. I can go on with this, but im no expert.

The kicker in all of this is the road to war that we just cant get off of. When youre a nation that is constantly on the brink of getting attacked by the most powerful forces man has constructed, chances are you will do just about anything to build a "deterrence".

I love how imanutjob says its for defensive purposes only. Why do you need to have a stealth jet if you don't plan on trying to evade enemy radar with it?

Clearly it is a far superior jet than anything produced by the US. You have some crappy F35. They have a F313, clearly 9 times better than your hardware

i mean in a defensive war you don't just sit there and wait for waves of enemy soldiers to attack you. you would most likely launch offensive sorties in a defensive war.

no, that's not how that works. in a defensive war you do launch offenses. you don't just dig trenches and wait. what century are you living in?

As for them being really expensive and "the seal team of aviation"....meh. the US sure liked using them against the bosnians of all people. that doesn't seem like the proper role of "special forces of aviation"
