Oh and I forgot to talk about that last bit. AT&T Uverse has only started building out again and last I heard, Verizon FIOS is done buildings so they aren't looking to add any new areas or customers than what they have now. So I'm not really sure long those are going to be seen as viable options.

i can't imagine this going through. it's on par with verizon and at&t merging. way too large of a market cornered by a single company.

Yeah this merger is pretty ridiculous. The fact that they currently don't compete in each others territories means they should be prevented from merging so they will be forced to compete with each other upon further expansion.

I think this move is more to tighten the screws on content providers in the short term with long term consumer screwing afterwords.

I read an article last week that said 'some people' think that lately Verizon has been throttling speeds for Netflix.. Of course Verizon denies this, and other 3rd party people agree with Verizon.
BUT, it's gonna happen sooner or later.
Again it is fascinating how many of the so called 'free market' and 'competition cures all' people look the other way with these mega mergers take place and don't care when these companies have carved up the market.. Which basically have created monopolies in some areas of the country.

Verizon and AT&T are both throttling, at least to Netflix according to Netflix. Speeds don't just get slower and slower out of the blue over several consecutive months. Throttling speeds, even just a bit, makes a huge difference in the amount of traffic going through their pipes.

As I recall TW also made a merger with AOL and TW Cable but it turned into a disaster for them and they opted back out years later so I dont see this as a bad thing. Monopolies only start to suck when the gubmint protects them.
