this isn't a price war against the US. yeah, it might hurt shale production, but the economic benefits to the US from cheaper oil are magnitudes greater than any loss. what this does though is hit russia incredibly hard because their oil extraction costs are so much higher than ours and the saudis,

This is an opportune time to raise Federal gas taxes significantly to a level where we can take care of our infrastructure.

And the US economy is extremely diverse. Even if US oil production were to slow for a while, overall the US economy benefits far more than it loses from cheap energy.
Venezuela, on the other hand is screwed. Any economy that depends heavily on oil exports is going to be squealing. Tzar Vladimir might even wrinkle his forehead a little.
