Honestly, the best thing is to not try to time it. Just keep consistently investing, and the oscillations work in your favor over the long term.

Stock Market wise 18% some years is very possible, but as an 'average'.. That seems optimistic.. IMO..

Well. No promises. Just history. Historically its more like 11% on average, even including the great depressing. IIRC.
But on the other hand the big 20th century growth spurt with the cheap energy, postwar boom, and everything is all over, so, eh...
