I'm unsure if its already been mentioned, but the government won't enjoy removing the cap or raising the amount an individual wants because it reduces the governments revenues. They lose tax money when you're take home pay is reduced, they also lose it from sales taxes that you can't use etc. I personally think its bullshit too, and there shouldn't be any reason the government is even in the business of telling us how much we can save or not but whatever.
