Before I respond to your critique of my links, can you specify what you view as normal?
I presume your definition of normal is a human being raised in a decent-enough home, without exposure to violence, with a family that encourages emotional expression, who doesn't have to worry too much about money. Because that seems to be the gist of your argument. Exposure to "abnormal" (actually prevalent as hell) situations like domestic violence, war, community violence and poverty all lead to stress, they all lead to mental disorders, and both of those factors have been repeatedly correlated with violence.
The idea that you can talk about normal responses to stress while totally disregarding abnormal causes of stress - like your daughter being shot in kindergarten - is ridiculous. The average person will never face that... and yet when they do, there is a huge increase in psychological "disorders."
This predictability is what I mean by normal: if you get to see a dozen dead Iraqis in a ditch, or your dad kick the shit out of your mom, or you find out your daughter has been shot, abnormal responses are normal. They can be expected.
