Well, satellite radio is shitty and doesn't offer a service that I would use, so that's not an option.

And wifi is free in a lot of places, sure, but it's not free when I'm driving and want to listen to music, get driving directions, etc... Why would I pay for a shitty satellite radio service I don't want when I can just get an awesome phone with unlimited data, and isn't limited to my car, and has a plethora of uses?

And I save money buy paying for iTunes Match over buying a phone with more storage. Since I have over 40gbs of music, I can pay $20/year and upload all the songs I pirate as if I own them download and delete them at will, then, after two years get a new phone and keep getting the smallest storage space possible and use it effectively, since the price difference between the 16gb version and 32gb is >$80.

So effectively, I pay an extra $25ish/year to upload my pirated music, have unlimited texting, data, and m2m and a great phone I enjoy (iphone or not, same applies to Android). Why would you not do that?

So, back to the original point:

wifi isn't everywhere. For example, if I'm driving in my car, I can't connect to wifi.

You don't need data to listen to a shit ton of music. You can download stations from slacker.com and play them later, as described by Uebermann. You can download MP3s, as described by me. You can get satellite radio for $5/month, as described by Galt. Again, if you want to pay $80 a month for the added ability of being able to stream music in your car - something I wouldn't and cannot do - do so. But you can't justify it economically.

Back to the original point: why the f**k should I have to tether my phone - which may or may not cost money depending on your plan - in order to play a game I have already bought?

Well, as I pointed out, satellite radio is a shitty rip off.
Downloading radio stations and playing them back is a hassle
I do download MP3s, so that's a non-factor
and it's not just for music. I pay $80/month for unlimited data usage, unlimited messaging, unlimited m2m. I also pay for the convenience of never ever having to give a shit about how much I'm using my awesome phone I just purchased, nor do I ever have to stop at Starbucks to download something.
