OK, this summer I'm getting caught up on the classics.. I've read some, but as I said no Hemingway.. Best classic I ever read was Flowers for Algernon.. I might have to re-read that this summer.. Great book...Hell maybe the best book I ever read..

So anyway I ordered from Amazon this morning.. The Old Man and the Sea...And on Spiders recommendation Farewell to Arms... And Slaughterhouse Five.. Never read that or any Vonnegut book..

Ordered a couple of NYT current best sellers novels too..

One of the best things about summer is getting caught up on my reading..

If you are going to read Hemingway I would recommend For Whom The Bell Tolls over A Farewell to Arms. Vonnegut is good. He has an incredible dark sense of humor.

Vonnegut over Hemingway any time. Vonnegut is hilarious, in an interminably dark sort of way.

I recommended Cat's Cradle, Player Piano, or Sirens of Titan. Slaughterhouse 5 is pretty awesome too.

I put The Old Man and the Sea... For Whom the Bell Tolls and Player Piano on my Amazon wish list. After I read Slaughterhouse 5 and Farewell to Arms I see how I like them and maybe order the above books on my list.

When it comes to reading, I am weird.. Some summers I'll read 2-3 books a week for the whole summer. I'll go thru 15 or so books, easy.. Other summers I'll read 3-4 books, then stop. There's no use for me to order a bunch, because until I start reading I have no idea of my 'mood'.. So this year I ordered 1 Hemingway, 1 Kurt and 3 modern trashy novels off of the NYT Best Seller list.. LOL

The mountains , Virginia Beach, and, now the wife is pushing hard to rent a house in Fla. for-3 weeks.. All that time, just me, the wife and our niece.. I could be doing a TON of reading this summer. I better be in my 2-3 books a week mood.

I've just finished reading Flowers for Algernon, again, still on my top 5 list.. And I read Slaughterhouse 5 early last week.. Very good..

In between the classics I read.. Calico Joe, by John Grisham.. Yeah that Grisham.. I haven't liked any of his books in many, MANY years.. For awhile there all his books seemed the same to me, but Calico Joe is quite good.. Easy read, entertaining and not about lawyers, courtrooms, or anything like that. It's a novel, about 2 baseball players.. I finished it in a day... It was so good I just bought and just started to read 'Playing for Pizza'.. Another 'sports' book by Grisham. Football this time..

Also between the classics I read The Light Between Oceans.. Surprisingly good.. 4 good books in a row.. I'm on a roll.

Just dove into a 1,000 pager last night called The Company: A Novel of the CIA by Robert Littell. Was recommended by a friend and appears to be somewhat like The Good Shepherd (a fictionalized account of real persons/events).

I'm going to be out of commission for a while on this one.
