There's nothing more to discuss that we will ever agree upon.

You folks regard an unborn fetus as if it might be a microwave oven, a strange animal or a tumorous growth, as something that is somehow outside the parameters of human because it doesn't have personhood. Slaves were constitutionally considered 'other persons at the rate of 60% of someone with personhood. That is a very smelly situation.

It's a human, it's living. End of story.

Where I stand on abortion is that it should not be illegal or even difficult to obtain. should it be made illegal, you're setting up your teenage daughter to be murdered by a wench with a twig.

I could not do it without just medical cause.

There are valid reasons for abortion. Incestuous rape, for instance. But I think too many people use abortion as birth control too often. I think people need to look at my son and know him. then ask if he should have been aborted just because the timing wasn't right.

There are people that would be better off if they had never been born.

Abortion is too often used by people too lazy to take any precaution and as a failsafe plan. that is where abortion goes off the rails to me.

We will never agree, so carrying on will be pointless.

You're right that we will never agree when you continue to point out trivial observations of no ethical merit. Yes, a human fetus is by definition a human. It is also a living organism. However, so too is a redwood a living organism, so too is a chicken, a fish and cattle. The fact that these organisms are living clearly does not matter to you or others when they are chopped down for paper or slaughtered for food products.

The ethically relevant criteria, again, consists in the attributes of personhood (sentience, conscious self-awareness, autonomy, etc.). A human fetus lacks these attributes, is therefore not a person and by virtue of this fact not accorded the rights of persons.

I do not view the human fetus as a microwave oven or whatever other idiotic hyperbole you feel like spewing onto the forum. I simply view the human fetus within the context of what is clearly a continuum of developed life and place the life where it most appropriately belongs. You, either due to an irrational religious neurosis or some other form of irrationality, imbue into the fetus some magical essence that uplifts it well beyond even other more highly developed forms of life.

You are being a hypocrite when you assume that there must be some dire medical emergency to justify abortion if you simultaneously consume the flesh of more developed forms of life simply because you think those forms of life taste good and are therefore worthy of no consideration whatsoever.

If it is permissible to slaughter chickens, cows, pigs and the like just to consume their flesh, it is not possible to consistently oppose an abortion for the most trivial of reasons even late into a pregnancy.
