Heard some grumbling from a Saudi prince yesterday about fracking in the US and how they are woried about their nut. I wouldn't be surprised to see some Washington politicians receive "donations" from them to make some BS EPA reg. to curtail the US's efforts in producing more and more of our own oil and gas.

Back some time ago I heard that Saudi Arabia's 2nd largest industry was rag-cloth after oil production. I don't even know what rag-cloth is but I can imagine. Dunno if true.

just thought I'd remind those of you who think that humanity is advancing.

150 years ago we waged the bloodiest war in our history against ourselves to end slavery.

we are now close partners with Saudi Arabia and the UAE, both countries with slavery.

Like many Western nations actually care that much about human rights (Guantanamo anyone?). Foreign policy is (as non said) based on money and who is the 'bigger threat'. While the US has Saudi as its ally, they have a solid and reliable base in one of the most volatile regions in the world. As long as the Saudi's allow the US to practically do what it wants and keeps providing masses of oil, the US and the rest of the West are simply going to turn a blind eye to horrific human rights abuses that are carried out on a daily basis.
