You're right the quality is what we pay for too.
And I have NEVER once downloaded a song for free for the reasons you say. How f***ing cheap do you have to be to not pay a buck for a song that you will potentially listen to for the rest of your life? The worst I ever did was accept a pirated CD of my favorite band because it was two weeks before release--when it came out, I bought the legitimate copy. I just wanted to hear it early.
Movies are even worse. Somebody spent literally $100+ million dollars to make something so you could be entertained for free? Really?
