"Ethnic" is probably to broad a term. It can mean damn near anything we want it to. Two people who speak a slightly different dialect of the same language, but share the same race/religion/creed/history/traditions/etc can be considered different "ethnically" if we want to get technical about it.
Although the motivation for the US, being composed of nearly every ethnic group on the planet, by whatever definition, is magically exempted from this definition is interesting.
In racial terms, the US will soon be composed mostly of non-white populations. We've already turned that corner.
