Sometimes I think people forget that scientific research is a luxury and does not need to return cost + in order to be worthwhile or valuable.

i was thinking the other day how the really cheap and easy shit to invent has pretty much already been invented. lightbulbs, electricity in every home, things like that. sure they required innovation and money but they require cheap and plentiful resources and the there are almost no drawbacks to them.

technology, whether it's electronics or bio-medical or whatever, is REALLY expensive to invent now and REALLY time consuming. i think we're quickly approaching the point where the goals for most scientific research are going to be too distant to satisfy the short-sighted, capitalist mind frame the world is in.

It's why I wish I had a company with a ton of revenue.

I imagine having a company the size of Google, and just making a ton of money off of something like they do, and then just setting aside 30-50 million every year and just letting people just research stuff. As long as they are producing or exploring new things, I'd be happy.
