When looked at over the entirity of human history, it's the norm. f**k, just in terms of total population today it probably still is the norm. So I'm not quite sure what is meant by 'abnormal'. "I don't agree with it and dislike it"? I can agree with it on that definition, but it's not 'abnormal' per se.

Ok normal maybe, but is it desirable? It harkens back to the primitive idealistic philosophies of the past. It a mode of thinking and acting that is outmoded. For society to progress all members need to be educated to think critically and objectively. There is no room for idealism in a modern progressive society, which is predicated on a materialist and scientifically derived perspective.
