So, I was unpacking my car on Friday and put my phone on the roof of the car. What happens? The phone rings, vibrates, and falls to the concrete. It lands EXACTLY face down (not on its side, which has happened numerous times over the past 3 years I've owned a Samsung phone - and no damage resulted). I picked it up and the screen is shattered. Not just cracked. Shattered so bad that when you run your finger over it, small shards of glass get stuck in your fingertip. But, the phone still works as normal.
I'm dreading the repair bill as I start researching prices for replacement. All of the hits I first discover are the normal "We fix iPhones for $200" websites. Then, I see some GS4-specific hits. And they show how to fix it for $15.
Come to find out, the glass is separate from the digitizer or LCD. You can buy the glass, plus an entire kit to remove and replace, for $15 online. I ordered it overnight ($5 upcharge). Once I got it, it only took 2 hours (took my time) and I had a phone that looked as good as new.
