Just finshed Burmese Days by Orwell. Not bad but Graham Greene did that whole ex-pat thing a lot better.
Started The Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thorton Wilder. It take place in 18th century Peru. I've read a load of books set in South America over the last two years. This one has a lot of similar themes, particularly the effects of Spanish colonialism as demonstrated through the crazy class system and the church.
