I'm not criticizing Teabow, or Young.. They are what they are..

I'm criticizing the teams that drafted them as NFL QB's.. These teams spend MILLIONS on scouting and rating players.. Yet they couldn't see these 2 guys(and others) were never, ever going to be able to play the QB position in the NFL? I understand NO TEAM ever gets all their drafted players right.. But these 2 were a complete miss.. Teabow couldn't throw in college, is has a terrible throwing motion. He looks like a baseball pitcher winding up.. No way that motion was ever going to work in the NFL..

If he wants to stay in football he has to realize it won't be at QB.. He should spend a year out of football and try to learn another position.. TE maybe? Then try to hook up with a team next year.. Maybe play a year in Arena or Canadian football and learn a position there.

But IMO he'll just fade out of football though. With his name, and his popularity, he'll hook-up as a speaker with someone. Religious? Motivational? something like that..

Tebow's problem was never his arm. Yeah, it's not that good, but it's good enough. Tebow's problem is he could never read defenses. He only has 1 read because he doesn't know how to analyze it to go to his 2nd read. In QB terms, he's a moron.

Vince Young was a 2 time pro-bowler who got an injury, then mental issues, and never recovered. His numbers were never great, but before that injury he was a top 20 QB in the league at the time.

Now Jamarcus Russell was a bust beyond busts.

Teabow's throwing motion is way too slow.. Too looping. Like I said it reminds me of a pitcher.. NFL QB has to be accurate and have a quick release.. Teabow had neither.

And Young was a 3rd overall draft pick, even if he was once a top 20 QB for a year or two in the NFL.. In a league with only 32 teams? IMO that's a bust..

But yes, as QB's they were both morons.. And in this day and age in the NFL that means certain failure at the QB position. Most people think baseball players are cerebral and football players are dumb.. In all the major team sports QB may have to be the smartest nowadays.. Defenses are too good and complex....

Tebow could have survived if he was smart. Vick, who has a great arm, isn't very accurate in comparison to other QBs. But his legs and his ability to read defenses have kept him around (his O-line being trash of late has killed his career, though and it ain't his fault).

The difference between a starting QB that last and the ones that don't isn't arm strength, throwing motion, height, etc. When you get drafted at the NFL level, all of those are good enough to survive. The difference between them is ability to read defenses and throw accurately based on your reads.

You're right, I agree that the QB is probably the position that requires the most smarts. The amount of information a QB has to process in an instant among chaos is amazing. People think it's just 1 receiver runs X route, another runs Y route, and you just figure out who is open and throw to them. But WR routes are NOT like madden. For many offenses like in GB, a WR will lineup with 3 general routes he can run based on the play-call. Depending on how he reads the defense he will read a route he will do and the QB has to agree without any contact. They both have to read it the same. Then, while running the route, the WR will have 6 options in how to complete his route (because a play is called for a post route for the WR it can turn into a curl) depending on how defenders defend. The QB has to read the defense to read what his WR is doing. That's 18 potential routes before the snap takes place the QB has to know, or in this case Rodgers. That is unreal. And the defenses are so sophisticated, hiding what they're doing, etc.

It makes you appreciate Brady, Brees, Manning, Rodgers all the more because they've don it for so long and so consistently. They're successful because they're so smart at how they read defenses. Hell, Peyton had zero arm-strength the first half of last season and still found ways to beat teams.


I've always thought it would be cool to have a reality show where you take regular joes, stick them into Rodgers place for GB with the 1st team, and have him try to do what he does and how it looks. Of course, no tackling but rather flags - we don't want to kill the poor schmucks. I wonder if any single throw will even get near the WR.
