I'd also like to add that previously, The Shield, probably had one of the most shocking endings to a series I've ever seen. For those not in the know, go look up the episode called Family Meeting. It was a doozy.
I think Breaking Bad is going to up the ante, especially since it's using multiple episodes to increase the shock.
