Why the f**k would a company wait until the night before to lay off a shitload of people? To ruin their performance the next day? And suffer as their competitors employ opposite tactics? What the f**k?
As a side anecdote, even with ACA going into effect, my employer has drastically upped medical coverage. Whereas before they only alotted a $260 contribution they will now be covering a set percent of about 80% of the premium. For Med, Dental, and Vision...
This is probably because they're flush with cash. Like every other corporate entity out there right now. Liquidity out the ass. Oh, and while this may be more related to the industry itself, turnover is getting pretty high.
Though to wit, my employer has over 500 employees at this point.
