Wonder why the dog thing is "cutting edge". In theory, it doesn't seem that hard. It's easy to make a motor that controls legs to do those things. Link a gyroscope to make minor adjustments in the motion of the legs to account for surface irregularities. Have another gyro control tilt so that it can turn.
I don't know - must be harder than I'm thinking.
