god bless america: 10/10


at first i thought it was going for some sort of meta-irony hipster bullshit about the whole "blah blah violence in 'merica but we're violent, blah blah 'mericas vapid but one of the protagonists is an MPDG" but towards the end it kind of justifies itself again. great dark comedy, not mind-blowing social commentary but it's not trite either. good stuff. also it's about a disgruntled guy from upstate new york who wants to murder everyone around him so it spoke to me on a personal and spiritual level.

also 10/10 would bang

The protagonist is a genocidal messianic figure whose crimes are either entirely justified by the circumstances or something he was manipulated into doing.

Do I need to draw pictures? I guess you haven't ever had occasion to question a teenager about an act of wrongdoing. lol

First of all from their perspective their social life is a "matter of life or death" so any wrongs that may occur in pursuance of popularity are either entirely justified or the fault of an outside party. So to remain the "good guy" in this one has to be creative. The protagonist of the story is a figure an adolescent can easily identify with. And the melodrama of the story is perfect setting for this sort of teen angst.

The reader gets to live vicariously as a victim and a hero in the story, in other words.
