28 hrs to LA? That is impressive. I've taken almost as long driving from NY to Florida. Of course there were 4 kids in the car with me, and the wife. Surprised I didn't just drive off a bridge. I'm hungry, I got to go to bath bathroom, you're lost, yada, yada.. Ah yes it brings back fond memories.

Something I heard that illustrated how big of a lead they had on the next guy. By the time they made it to Texas, they were so far ahead of the record that they could have driven through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California AT THE SPEED LIMIT and still beat the record.

A non stop record should be tried. Speed not an issue just continuious forward progress. A bus type rv that could be refueled on the go,a 3 or 4 person team to rotatate driving. Water food etc could be supplied by service vehicle.
The hardest part of doing nothing is knowing when your done.
