This is actually true. What the government did in the Chrysler bankruptcy was unprecedented and basically ignored basic rules of priority to give union and pension funds a disproportionate share of the equity in the new company. Arguments can be made that this was necessary to restructure the company, given that bankruptcy law requires significant classes to approve of any reorganization plan, and the unions and pensions may have objected to any plan where they didn't get a significant stake. However, there is also the argument that the government and courts just flagrantly ignored the law to redistribute shares of a restructured Chrysler from bondholders and creditors to unions and pensions. A cynic among us would point out that there are strong political incentives for a new democratic administration to do this.

If the government has to bail a business out then it should become worker managed. Private profit is the least important component of the industrial equation and really signifies nothing other than a drain on productive capability for no gain.If this weren't true there wouldn't ever be a need for a bailout.
