Rap is just a medium, it is natural that the medium will eventually be divorced from the content that originally came with it. The same has happened to rock and almost any other music genre.

Some of the best independent hip hop and rap artists these days are actually white. The cultural dynamics have definitely taken off, and partially as a consequence have been muddled by pop BS, but the talent pool is much larger.
