8/10 for the pilot episode.
Buddy cop bromance meets Blade Runner/Deus Ex. Very cool aesthetic...it seriously does channel Blade Runner, and obviously intentionally. Its not really gritty, but not really flashy either. Its believable middle 21st century fare, from a scifi flavor angle...and pulls off a decent interpretation of an overpopulated and backsliding civilization with way too much technological acceleration for its own good. Great sound production. The two leads were solid (Karl Urban ftw), as was Lili Taylor, whom I've always had a thing for but don't know why. Some of the supporting characters were cardboard cutouts though: One is there purely for eye candy/future love triangle far as I can tell...the other is sure to be the early hater but eventual grudging supporter. The plot moved along nicely, the writing was believable, nothing was over the top.
It did a good job doing all the things a pilot is supposed to do, and I'm cautiously optimistic. This has JJ Abrams' essence splattered all over it, so if that bothers you...
