Not the same thing. I'm not saying that people will be too slow to adopt the technology, I'm actually saying the opposite. Technology available to the masses will surpass the ability for the the computers to generate problems that take the same amount of time. Even if the average time to solve decrease by a few minutes it'd distort the economy.

That's not a problem because that won't happen before the 84 million litecoins are mined. As hardware develops the algorithms for new currencies will developed as well. That's the point of decentralization, really.
If one part goes down it doesn't take the rest of the network with it. Too big to fail financial players will be a thing of the past.

The biggest threat would be if the NSA converts their new data storage facility into a litecoin mining facility and takes over in the name of central banking
