Credit history is more important, but it's increasingly being forgotten in this data-driven society that tries to find a reason to disqualify someone. I had a credit score of 720+ in college because I only had one credit card that I rarely utilized, but upon graduating I had bills that sometimes required a few weeks of credit, I needed to buy a car, etc. My credit score is now like 680 but I'm successfully juggling credit cards, a car payment, and rent. Of course like I said you have to hope your employer cares.
