If there is a true capitalism then the US political economy exemplifies it. The idea that "real capitalism" is being suppressed is a common perspective among US style libertarians and free marketeers.
But that is less than informed because if you take the writings of people like Adam Smith, Thomas, Paine, Thomas Jefferson etc you will find that they actually advocate a system very much like the one proposed by libertarian socialism.
Like I said, that perspective is the result of social conditioning in favor of capitalism and against communism. When people start really thinking about this stuff they find out their assumptions don't really fit the reality of the situation. Usually people with a rightist outlook try to justify the cognitive dissonance between what they believe about the world and our society and the truth about it as understood by an educated person. This come out as a host of conspiracy theories, usually.
No, communism and collectivism are not bad. Statism/capitalism (one and the same) are the unsustainable system you noticed.
However I'm not trying to tell you how to think. I gave you some links to some good intellectual material about the subject because I want you to read and explore and find out the truth for yourself by educating yourself in the subject of political economy.
Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy it as much I have have over the last 10 years.
