And for that, you can blame your government.

The problem isn't corporations seeking out to maximize revenue. They have to do that. It's like saying that eating is a problem, when you need food to live.

The problem is the government only panders to their interests, and does not serve the people it represents.

I'm just saying that is where the blame lies. I don't fault a single corporation for trying to, or getting away with whatever it can. That's what they're supposed to do. I do take issue with the government not doing it's job.

This happens a lot in the tech industry now and is why I refuse to work in it in the corporate world any more.

#1 you are paying people overseas for a job. which means money is leaving the country of origin and not coming back into circulation through any other means. Its not like people in India are buying British food and products, for the most part. This has been a problem for many years now and is one of the base problems in the US as well and why our economy is really going into the shitter.

#2 you are going to lose money on a deal like this. It might bring in more overall at first, but you forget the reason why your customers like you. You have a good service and provide good support. Take away half of that, and suddenly, you won't have as many customers. I saw it happen a few times - once to myself and quite a few times to friends. Those companies now? Pretty much all are out of business or right at that point. Piss the customers off and you lose. And people looking for help with a product don't want a hard time by having to try and translate every spoken word over the phone

Outsourcing is ok and makes sense for some things. Hell, you can even outsource locally. There used to be lots of outsourced call centers in the UK. But when you start sending more and more jobs overseas, guess what that means for your country? I can't speak for the UK but I know in the US we're having a lot of problems due to outsourcing. Really the whole Support industry in the US has gone to shit in the last few years and really isn't recovering. Check Monster.com for "entry level" requirements these days. Funny that they'll hire people that barely speak English in India for pennies a day but when it comes to a US job, you need 5 years experience and a masters degree for "Tech Support I" entry level position.

Greed will be the death of the US economy.
