Oh yeah no doubt I'm just saying that if it was after we nuked the hell out of Iran they could argue they had moral cover, something they really can't now.

If the US went nuclear on the Middle East, there would be no nuclear response. Because at that point, even the most crazed jihadist would realize that retribution - a nuke going off in a major American city - would result in the total annihilation of Arabic culture. These guys may have an ideology we disagree with, but they are definitely rational. If a country with 5000 nukes lights up one of your countries, nuking them back will simply ensure your total destruction, and the vast majority of the ME has no use for martyrdom.

Not only that, but if it went that far, there is a good chance their nuclear materials would have been taken care of already.

My guess is Iran, or anyone could be taken care of using conventional weapons. Wind patterns don't recognize national borders.

Where did you guys get the idea that a state actor would be behind that nuclear retribution? Obviously the mullahs in Iran aren't going to buy someone a plane ticket and send him to LaGuardia with a suitcase nuke and his martyrdom orders.

We're getting off the topic here though. Nuking Iran pre-emptively pretty much defines cray cray.

Non-state actors don't have access to raw materials or technological know-how to do it without help from a state. It just isn't possible. The only way to do it would be if a government hooked you up with what you needed - and all of that stuff is traceable.

And Russia.. I think it's pretty well known since the fall of the USSR some of Russia's nuke's and nuke material has been 'misplaced'..
