A lot of people like to play baseball as well as watch it, though I'll agree we are the nerdiest subset of sports fans.
To your point about new innovations/tricks arising in soccer, that just speaks to a different dynamic . A lot of innovation and new schemes appear in College Football but are slow to catch on, if they ever do, in the NFL because there's going to be too much talent on the other side of the ball. That doesn't make college more sophisticated than the NFL, it just means there's a different dynamic in the competition.
