I think a well rounded education is incredibly important for students, and I think history, political science and economics deserve special consideration. We can't have a functioning democracy if the majority of citizens don't know history and are ignorant of politics and economics. With the cost of education being so high I can't recommend to students to take a bunch of non-major classes to become well rounded, but in ideal world they should have the opportunity.
The beauty of cheap college is that it allows individuals to get a well rounded education and get work skills without worrying that an extra semester is gonna cost them 15k. The workforce is having trouble absorbing a bunch of new graduates, entry level wages are already too low, it is better to have kids in school getting better more advanced skills or at the minimum becoming more informed citizens than being unemployed, waiting tables, or the worst case scenario, finding themselves in positions of power and influence without the knowledge to make informed decisions.
