My God we will spend billions and trillions to bomb and destroy other countries and then try and rebuild them after we do that--and fail--but we don't have single payer because this is "socialism."

Our priorities in this country are so far gone at this point I don't know if we'll ever make it back.

At least obamacare a step in the right direction. If it fails you're back to square one with millions without access to adequate healthcare. But if it works, it will show healthcare reform works and will maybe set the precedent for further reform to a single payer system in the future.

Meanwhile, I'm gonna be happy in the knowledge that if me, a member of my family or any of my friends back home get ill then they are covered for it. Whether they just need basic medicine for an illness or they need quadruple heart bypass surgery they will be covered without a huge financial burden being placed on themselves or those around them.

Massively at loss as to why anyone would be against this.

The biggest problem with healthcare and those who are fighting against Obamacare are those who stand to lose their cash cow. Right now, just medicare fraud costs us 30 billion a year. Doctors, hospitals, etc... charge and/or perform services not necessary to jack up costs to insurance companies. Between the lobbyists, lawmakers, big pharm, etc... nobody really wants "better" because it will mean "less" for them. Their greed and/or ability to exploit the cash cow trumps what's "better" for Americans.

That's why a single-payer system, or universal healthcare, is what's "better" for Americans. Eliminate or marginalize the middle men, as well as the ability to exploit the cash cow.
