the levies thing is ridiculous, and it's part of why muslims are OP right now. they can naturally raise more levies, and have more tricks at their disposal to increase levies from provinces. it's why, controlling all of ireland, cornwall, and brittany, i can raise 8000 men but the emirate of castille or portgual can raise twice that many before mercenaries. plus, it forces you rely so heavily on demesne levies that wars are outrageously expensive, and they really nerfed the ability to have retinue. before it was basically if you can pay for it, you can have it. now it's tied to technology. by 1100 as ireland, being ahead of everyone in tech, i was still only able to have 1000 units as retinue. before the last patch, playing as venice, i was able to have an 8000 stack of retinue (only because i was stupid rich). if a retinue can't even deal with a peasant army, it's completely useless.

i usually tax them very little since my own demesne is always rich and well upgraded, but i demand all their levies. that way, when a civil war happens, i have a huge personal army and whoever remains loyal to me gives me an assload of troops.

something i've noticed though, and i'm pretty sure it's a bug, is that when i'm at low crown authority my vassals don't fight. the second it goes up to medium crown authority, where they shouldn't be allowed to fight each other, my vassals begin warring constantly.

i feel like paradox needs better unit and regression tests. once it's all nice and done it's great, but it takes em a while to polish it once they make a new cut at it

well they never had a quality management team until eu4. they basically tested if the code was working right and then just shipped the games before.

you mean they tested if the build failed not if it was working right :-) there's been plenty of instances where i do that, but especially with patching, exaggerating problems, in my view, makes things worse. do smaller patches, or do them more infrequently, or something

FYI both EUIV and CKII are 75% off today. That's better than current steam sale, and they give you a steam key

CKII $10 --- https://shop.paradoxplaza.com/store?Act ... uyCartPage
EUIV $10 --- https://shop.paradoxplaza.com/store?Act ... uyCartPage

then we can play multiplayer madness

also, steam sale starts today. they just had a fall sale goddamnit.... i have given them so much money...
