I do find it strange in the states how big of a part social issues play at elections, they play a small part here but the economy is so much more important. Heck, it was the coalition (conservative majority) that's recently legalised gay marriage, albeit with support from the labour party.

you can't vote against them. not enough anti-business candidates get elected for there to even be a hope of that happening. plus, there's so much to pay attention to between state and federal elections, most people pick one or the other and even then they are barely informed on who they're voting for.

I was happy when I read the GOP was throwing big money behind moderate Republicans in their races against TP candidates.. The GOP was outspending the TP in these races and it made a difference.

But then I realized that's pretty hypocritical on my part. I hate the fact there is so much money in politics today yet here I am rooting that moderate Republicans receive more $millions than their opponents to win elections.. But that's what it takes now.. Whoever has the bigger pocketbook usually wins..

I think it is pretty telling that for Eisenhower's farewell speech he focused on warning us about the rise of the MIC. The special interests run this country and there is nothing we can do because they have both parties.
