i think something we should get out of the way is that we all do this, just not necessarily to the extreme in that video.

for example, when exploited is talking on here, he takes on the register and style of an idiot, where as when he's at home talking he's more of an idiot savant.

Code-switching is switching between two or more languages. I know one language and have never adopted any accents or languages, not even ebonics, despite exposure to them, even temporarily.

Style-shifting seems to better describe what annoys me so. Specifically, "initiative style-shifting:"

i don't know the difference between style shifting and code switching, other than one sounds more colloquial. otherwise, code switching pretty much covers all of style shifting.

but really, it shouldn't bother you. you may not change your accent to the extreme some do, but you do code switch to varying degrees. i would actually be worried about you if you didn't.

But seriously, I always sound the same - well, except when I am whining. I don't do that annoying as f**k vocal fry thing, for instance, and when my buddy Jameson does it drives me absolutely crazy. He has a clear voice but then decides to randomly start talking all throaty, with that uuuuuhhhh sound.

Also, I can't help but be annoyed when someone is talking in a way that is deliberately different from their normal voice. My friend Kyle always deepens his voice when he answers the phone, and that also drives me crazy. Or when people do the valley girl thing, emphasizing different parts of their speech for reasons I can only guess at.

The chick today was literally talking like a little girl does. Not the words she used but how she said them. Everytime she spoke it was like nails on a chalkboard feeling.

As I said, I may only notice it due to years of speech therapy, which made me speak very deliberately and in a certain way. I don't know. But it bothers the living shit out of me.
