I just had this conversation with somebody and my prediction is: this blows over.

People have a short memory politically and honestly if he did do this, the fact that he shafted a small town in NJ really doesn't resonate with a national audience. Unless in the coming days it turns out there's a smoking gun that implicates him and he's caught lying, he'll be fine.

Christie's problem isn't a scandal--his problem is that he has to get through a primary determined by people who can't stand him and vice/versa. It's ultimately what sank the previous two: Romney tried to revoke his moderate credentials only to try and put them back on in the second debate. McCain didn't even try to pander to these morons but then tried to last-minute by inflicting Sarah Palin on us all (there should be a special place in hell for John McCain for that,

It's fun for now because we have the emails and the texts and the Enron-like lack of humanity from his staffers laughing over those schoolkids being shafted.

Next week we'll be on to something else. Mark my words.

When did I have to become the voice of reason and ethics here? That's not what I signed up for. This is a gross abuse of power, for a disturbingly petty reason. He shut down the worlds most used bridge, and commissioned a 60000 bullshit study to get back at a small town mayor who didn't enforce him when he was up by 25 points in the polls. Someone died. That's an impeachable offense if I ever heard one.

Even if he knew nothing about it, how could you let your staff do that? I don't think this blows over. There is a staffer out there with no job and a ruined reputation that knows the truth. No one thinks it's suspicious it took Christie a day to fire her? Just enough time to cut a deal with her to keep her mouth shut.

This will resonate. It's a very easy to understand form of abuse and there is a family out there with a dead grandma because of this. Even if he knew nothing, the fact his staffer could do this will sink him in a competitive primary.

I don't condone this one bit. I think it's an example of gross abuse of power and quite frankly, psychotic and vindictive. The Enron-like cackling at the misfortune of the residents affected by this gives me chills. And to at least his staffers, if you're a Democrat, you don't count in New Jersey (boy doesn't that sound familiar) so giving you the shaft is to be celebrated and fodder for jokes. And to willingly use your power to victimize people for outlandish, petty political payback where you're making the CITIZENS suffer is beyond the pale.

Shit, why not just bomb Ft. Lee then, like Saddam would?

That said, I'm preparing you for the reality should this be the extent of it. The media will run off to chase the next shiny thing dangled in front of them (10 bucks it's Obama-related) and if there's one thing the GOP has perfected, it's changing the subject when they're in the frying pan. Exhibit A: gov't shutdown... immediately forgotten for ACA website launch fiasco.

Remember we live in a country where a vice president who was really president lied us into a war which got 4,400 Americans killed, tens of thousands maimed, killed 100,000+ Iraqis, cost us $1 trillion dollars for nothing and exploited our worst national tragedy to do it in the most cynical way. Last time I checked that guy was giving speeches to blue-haired tea party droolers and the so-called "president" back then now paints pictures of dogs--and no, not from his jail cell.

We're not big on accountability here--unless it's the Other Guy.

My point is that Christie has a lot of people in the GOP who don't like him and are threatened by him and would love to see him crash and burn. Not to mention all democrats. Check drudge, it's tea yards leading the charge against Christie.
