the myth of the invincible horde of red army soldiers is just that, a myth. they were almost completely depleted of manpower. to this day, women still outnumber men in russia. they were exhausted. they couldn't afford to fight that war, especially when the US had nuclear bombs.
and all korea proved was that the soviets were willing to commit equipment, air power, and political support to allies. none of which was worth a damn. it was the hordes of fresh chinese soldiers that pushed us back in korea. and korea was a much easier fight than invading western europe.
we could have checked soviet power without keeping a huge standing army and fighting needless and costly wars. a lesson we're beginning to learn the hard way.
