the myth of the invincible horde of red army soldiers is just that, a myth. they were almost completely depleted of manpower. to this day, women still outnumber men in russia. they were exhausted. they couldn't afford to fight that war, especially when the US had nuclear bombs.

and all korea proved was that the soviets were willing to commit equipment, air power, and political support to allies. none of which was worth a damn. it was the hordes of fresh chinese soldiers that pushed us back in korea. and korea was a much easier fight than invading western europe.

we could have checked soviet power without keeping a huge standing army and fighting needless and costly wars. a lesson we're beginning to learn the hard way.

Also notice that during the cold war the fighting was in Vietnam or Korea, not Canada or Mexico.

I guess you have the Cuban missile crisis as an example of soviet aggression but Kennedy mythology aside that was a pretty feeble attempt on the part of the Russians at retaliation for US missiles placed around Turkey.aimed directly at Moscow.

Those missiles are probably still pointed at Moscow. lol

vietnam wouldn't have even happened if we had just listened to ho chi min and worked with him. our arrogance drove him to communism and a decade of needless bloodshed was the result.

And, if you actually reference the history of South Korea it started with an American puppet dictator and authoritarian whose first action was a extremely brutal anti-communist purge. So who is to say that if left alone after being liberated from Japan that Korea wouldn't have happily re-united as a democratic country?

Not sure where I said it was all done by the us and NATO. What I said was that all of our successful attempts at stopping communism were don't without the military. This isn't revisionist its empirical. All of our military ventures in the containment strategy failed.
