Much like our political system, both sides in the gun control issue have been painted with such extreme caricatures that people feel they must adopt an extremist opposition to combat the other side.
Most gun control people think of gun owners as Ted Nugent and must gun owners think that gun control people are Dennis Rodman.
Not much to work with there.
Just last week I posted a certificate of completion for handgun training and one of my Democrat friends took great offense, as if I had joined the KKK and posted that.
So it goes.
Here's what else I don't get: if I'm pro-gun, and guns are being used to unleash some pretty awful horrors like Sandy Hook/Aurora, I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure we've done everything to insure guns don't fall into the wrong hands, lest public opinion become so overwhelming that we don't have a choice as to our gun freedoms.
Curiously the NRA has adopted a defiant, f-you stance that really just involves screaming about the Second Amendment over and over.
Point being: some community outreach would probably go a long way rather than putting up a metaphorical Berlin Wall.
